Issue 23 is long overdue; so to make up for lost time, we have a stellar, chocka collection of work! We’re delighted to welcome Switch first timers, Barbadian artist, Versia Harris with her whimsical digital swans, and our fellow Trini, Horacio Hospedales, with his Instagram explorations. We’re grateful to Andre Bagoo, Kriston Chen, Sharon Millar, Shivanee Ramlochan and photographer, Arnaldo James, for sharing their experiments in poetry and images with us. And we have spreads of congratulations for Christopher Cozier, Gerard H. Gaskin and Kei Millar, all of whom have had wonderful successes with their work recently. Boy! 2012 was one helluva year for art in Trinidad and Tobago! Thinking back on it, I can scarcely remember such a profusion of riches! And our regular contributor, Marsha Pearce comments on the year in art. We have Marsha working real hard this issue, as she also reviews Alex Smailes’ recently concluded exhibition, “Alex Smailes: 10”. We’re delighted to be showing new work made speci cally for Switch by Brianna Mc Carthy, who we challenged to take inspiration from speci c works by poet, Olive Senior and jeweller, Jasmine Thomas-Girvan. (For one of her major exhibitions, “Gardening in the Tropics”, Thomas- Girvan referenced Senior’s poem of the same name.) Designer, Kriston Chen, creates a layout for a poem by Andre Bagoo, and photo essays by Kibwe Brathwaite and Arnaldo James illustrate two unique facets of Trinidad: our night life and the steel pan movement. A big thanks to Tanya Marie Williams for designing this issue of Switch, and to all our brilliant contributors.

Erotic Art week is a unique annual art festival that was conceived by a collective of visual, graphic and performing artists living in Trinidad & Tobago. 2010 was its second year of the Caribbean’s rst Erotic Art Week which ran under the theme “Wider”, expanding on last year’s theme “Open”. The committee is Choreographer, Dave Williams Artist Christian Alexis; Architect Terry Smith; Photographer Rodell Warner; Writer Darryn Boodan; and Designers Richard Rawlins and Marlon Darbeau. This 14th issue of Draconian Switch captures some of those moments…
